Plexiglass is a type of transparent acrylic plastic, which can be chosen instead of glass in your custom-made frame. Plexiglas weighs considerably less than glass, and being unbreakable, it is perfect to have in, for example, children's rooms or on walls where for various reasons, you cannot hang heavy things.
